Privacy Policy
Calorie Dose · Last updated 6 October 2026
This policy explains what Calorie Dose collects, why, and who it is shared with. It describes what the app actually does, not what a generic template assumes.
This app is operated by Calorie Dose. For any question about this policy or your data, contact support@caloriedose.com.
The short version
- We collect the body measurements and food information needed to calculate your energy needs and build your meal plans. That is health-related information, and we treat it as sensitive.
- Meal photos are never stored. A photo is sent for analysis, the food is identified, and the image is discarded. It is not saved on our servers and not kept by us in any form.
- If you send us a food product that is missing from our list, any photos of the pack you include are kept only until our team has reviewed the product, then deleted.
- We do not sell your data, and we never share your weight, goals, health information or meal plans with advertisers.
- You can delete your account and all of its data from inside the app.
What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address and password | To create and secure your account. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored only as a cryptographic hash — we never see or store your actual password. |
| Name — the one you give when you sign up, the one Apple provides if you use Sign in with Apple and choose to share it, or one you type in your profile | To personalise the app. You can change it in your profile at any time. |
| Country you choose in the app | So food search and meal plans use foods sold where you live. |
| Age, sex, height, weight, activity level and goal | To calculate your basal metabolic rate, daily energy needs and macronutrient targets. This is the core function of the app and it cannot work without them. |
| Neck, waist and hip measurements (optional), and your weight each time you save it | To estimate body fat and chart your progress. Each set you save is stored with its date. |
| Diet preferences — diet type, restrictions, allergies (groups such as dairy, and single foods you name), dislikes, cooking time, plan type and cuisines | So generated meal plans exclude food you cannot or will not eat. Some of this may reveal health information (allergies) or beliefs (religious dietary restrictions). We use it only to choose and filter food. |
| Food you log, with amounts, dates and times, and any foods you add yourself with their nutrition values | To show your daily and weekly intake against your targets. |
| Meal photos | Analysed once to identify the food, then discarded. See below. |
| Food products you send us — the product's name and, if you include them, its brand, barcode, the values from its label and photos of the pack | So our team can check the product and add it to the food list. The photos are deleted once it has been reviewed. See below. |
| Subscription status and purchase history — which plan you bought and when, the price, any offer code you used, and your App Store country | To unlock paid features, honour restores and keep a record of purchases and offer codes. Payment card details are handled by Apple and never reach us. |
| Technical usage records — which AI model ran, token counts, cost and a timestamp | To enforce fair-use limits and control our costs. These records contain no content from your plans, photos or diary. |
| App usage (analytics) — which screens and features are used (for example "a food was logged" or "the packages screen was opened"), app version, device model, iOS version, approximate country, and your account ID | To understand which features people use and fix what is not working. Analytics never includes your measurements, calories, targets, foods or anything you type, and does not use your advertising identifier. Kept for up to 14 months. |
| Advertising identifier | Only if you allow tracking when asked. Used by our advertising provider to show more relevant ads. See “Advertising” below. |
Meal photos, specifically
When you photograph a meal, the image is sent to our AI provider, which identifies the foods in it and returns a list of ingredients and estimated weights. The image is not written to our database and is not retained by us. Only the resulting food list — which you review and correct before saving — is stored, together with a record of the analysis cost.
The app asks first. Before your first meal photo, and before your first meal plan, the app shows what will be sent to our AI provider and asks for your permission. Nothing is sent until you allow it, and you can take the permission back at any time in Profile > AI permissions. For a meal plan, what is sent is your goal, your calorie and macro targets, your diet, the foods you avoid, your cooking time, your plan type, your cuisines and your country. Your name and your email are never sent.
Food products you send us, specifically
When a product is not in our list, you can send it to us. Only its name is needed. A brand, a barcode, the values from its nutrition label and up to three photos of the pack are optional, and you choose what to include.
The photos are stored privately: only your own account and our review team can open them. Our team uses them to check the label against the values. The photos are deleted as soon as the product has been reviewed, whether we add it or not, and when you delete your account.
A product we add becomes part of the food list everyone can search. That entry holds the product's name, barcode and nutrition values, and nothing about who sent it. The list of products you have sent, and whether each was added, stays in your account until you delete it.
Who your data is shared with
We do not sell personal data. We use the following service providers, each of which processes data on our behalf:
| Provider | What it handles | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, file storage, accounts and authentication — your profile, measurements, preferences, food log and any product photos you send | Singapore |
| Anthropic | Meal-plan generation and meal-photo analysis | United States |
| Google AdMob | Advertising to users without a subscription | United States and elsewhere |
| Google Analytics for Firebase | App usage analytics, as described above — no health data | United States and elsewhere |
| RevenueCat | Subscription status and receipt validation | United States |
| Apple | Payments, App Store and Sign in with Apple | Global |
| Open Food Facts | Food name searches and scanned barcodes, sent directly from your device when a food is not in our list. It receives the search text or barcode and your device's IP address — never your account, diary or health data | France |
| USDA FoodData Central | Food name searches and barcodes, sent from our servers when a food is not in our list. It receives only the search text or barcode | United States |
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or ourselves.
Advertising
Calorie Dose shows banner advertising to users who do not have a subscription. Subscribers see no ads.
Before any personalised advertising, you are asked for permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt and, where applicable, a consent form. If you decline, advertising still appears but is not personalised.
Advertisers never receive your health information. Your weight, body measurements, goals, diet preferences, food diary and meal plans are never shared with our advertising provider. Only your device's advertising identifier is, and only with your permission.
International transfers
Your data is stored in Singapore and processed by providers in the United States and elsewhere. By using Calorie Dose you understand that your information is transferred outside your country of residence, where data protection laws may differ.
How long we keep it
- Account and health data — kept while your account exists.
- Meal photos — never stored.
- Photos sent with a food product — until the product has been reviewed, then deleted.
- Usage records — kept for fair-use limits and accounting.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app, in your profile settings. This removes your profile, body measurements, diet preferences, food log, meal plans, subscription records and any product photos you sent that are still stored. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
Two things remain, and neither identifies you. Products you sent that we added stay in the shared food list, with nothing linking them to you. And if you used Sign in with Apple, the name Apple gave is remembered on your own iPhone, so it can be filled in again if you come back; it is not kept on our servers.
If you cannot access the app, email support@caloriedose.com and we will delete your account on request.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to processing, and withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, contact support@caloriedose.com.
Users in Sri Lanka have rights under the Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022. Users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have rights under the GDPR.
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest (AES-256), and stored with per-user access controls, so that one account cannot read another's data. Passwords are never stored in readable form, only as a one-way hash. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
Calorie Dose is not intended for anyone under 18. It calculates calorie targets, which is not appropriate for children or adolescents without medical supervision. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us and we will delete it.
Not medical advice
Calorie Dose provides estimates for general wellness. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Calorie and macronutrient figures are calculated estimates, and nutrition values are drawn from published food composition data and, for some packaged products, from product labels collected by Open Food Facts. All of these vary between sources and preparations. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet, particularly if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a medical condition.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Significant changes will be notified in the app.
